Therapy and support stay (TuF)
The care and support of dementia patients is not possible without the family members. The cost to the government and society would be enormous. Often relatives themselves suffer from illnesses (such as depression, high blood pressure, etc.) arising from the high levels of stress during care giving. Sometimes they need more medication and doctor's visits than those they care for (Brodaty, 1997).
In order to extend the care as long as possible while staying healthy, it is necessary to offer relief for the care giving relatives. For this reason, the Bad-Ischler-Concept was developed, which relieves relatives and supports patients during a two week therapy and support stay (TuF). This concept received the Paul Petrie Award by the University of Graz in 2001.
