Definition: M.A.S Trainers
- Basic assumptions:
- People with Alzheimer‘s have
abilities and can learn
- People with Alzheimer‘s can
have a good quality of life
- M.A.S Trainers are there to realise this potential
- They provide support for both the sufferer and other family
members
- Understand the pattern of the disease and are able to develop
a training programme for that individual – building on
existing capabilities
- Address the current and most urgent needs
- Provide contact to other social relief services
- Network social contacts
- Need to keep up with the latest developments while they work
Skills and Employment Possibilities
- Can provide individual and appropriate training programmes
(occupational or memory training)
- Can network social contacts
- Serves as a model for the community
- Not just a caregiver!
- Field of work:
- M.A.S group (one-to-one or groupsessions, „TUF“)
- Old
peoples` homes or care-homes
Financial help
- Further education grant from Upper Austria
- Amount of aid: 50%; for the over 40s - 80%
- Prerequisites:
- Must be employed and have no degree or equivalent
- Also available for people on maternity/paternity leave or those
on sabbatical for education purposes or those returning to the
workplace
- Participants must pay their own participation fee in advance
before applying
- Participants must either have been a permanent resident of
or have worked in Upper Austria for a least 1 year
- Application for financial aid must be received within 3 months
of completion of the course
