3rd INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON
INTERDISCIPLINARY GERONTOLOGY
and Alzheimer Academy

Alzheimer-Quality of Life - The Person First

The Morbus Alzheimer Society (M.A.S) cordially invites you to the 3rd International Conference on Interdisciplinary Gerontology and Alzheimer Academy in Bad Ischl (Austria). Our conference welcomes all professions involved in improving the Quality of Life of Persons with Dementia.

Today, symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease can be treated with modern medications. The Quality of Life can additionally be improved with nonpharmacological methods. Our efforts have to be invested in the early detection of the disease and in the provision of all available treatment strategies and services for everybody, even to persons living in remote rural areas.

Scientifically tested long term counseling methods for family caregivers have proven to prolong the time to institutionalization. However, services are not yet readily available. Therefore this topic will receive central attention within this
conference.

In our multidisciplinary program, we point to the many available methods for the improvement of Life Quality for persons with dementia-giving special attention to nonpharmacological treatments in community and standard care settings.
We will hear exciting reports about methodological progress and results from scientific evaluations in this area.

Another focus is the basic sciences. New and revolutionary ideas will be presented from which we can gain new insights about the origins of Alzheimer’s disease and hopefully new treatments may emerge from these ideas.

In this year’s program we expanded the program of the Alzheimer Academy. Workshops are offered for the different professions and for caregivers.

We are grateful to our sponsors and to our cooperating partners, the Red Cross of Upper Austria and the Doctor’s Association of Upper Austria for making this exciting conference possible.

We thank our conference presidents Prof. Martha Meyer (HTW Saarland-University of Applied Sciences) and Prof. Barry Reisberg (New York University) for their wonderful and helpful guidance in composing this program.

We are very much looking forward to three exciting and inspiring days and to welcoming you in the beautiful Salzkammergut area !
